Needed to post.

Tardis
So, I tried logging in to my ages old OD account to post there as I hadn't posted there in forever and I just really needed to get my thoughts down today for some reason. I couldn't log in there so I am here. I have a blogspot blog (marvolosriddle.blogspot.com) and I'll probably post this there too. I have been feeling the need to write more often. This place is like a stranger to me now. Writing is strange. I haven't written much more than a 3 page snippet of a story that will probably never develop into anything in ages.

I just read Amanda Palmer's last blog about her friend that died and it brought up so many emotions. I'm still very NOT OVER my Mother's death. DEATH. I wrote passing but it's not passing it's Death. With a capital D. She did not lightly pass away in her sleep. She tore a hole in my world. In all of our worlds. My sisters. My Father. We didn't know how to hold ourselves together without her. My sisters and I are close. That won't change. But my Mother's death made it so easy for my Father to completely wash his hands of us. I like to say that I'm truly an orphan because I don't really have a Father anymore, but of course it's not true. I do have a Father. The drugs control his life now. Although to be honest they ALWAYS controlled his life. Once my Mother died he had no reason to care for anything or anyone else except the drugs. He could have. He could have woken up from his daze, gotten the help he needed, and been the Father we've needed since I was in High School.

And don't get me wrong, I know drug addiction is an illness. I know it's not easy to beat. I know it's one of the hardest things people can face. It's just... he had a 12 year old daughter that desperately needed her Father and instead of trying. Instead of fighting for her, he gave in and went into a downward spiral that continues today.

He left a message on my sister Teresa's answering machine last week at 2 in the afternoon. It was a butt dial and so it was him talking with two women about some crazy shit and then talking about what strength pills they wanted to do right then. Ugh. It was difficult to listen to. He sounded insane. Not surprising.

Whenever we confront him about it he asks us to prove that he's doing drugs and gets pissed off and disappears again for months at a time. Then he'll come back to Sunday dinners again like nothing ever happened and tell us he's stopped drinking. For two weeks. Then he'll be drinking a bottle of wine with dinner every weekend.

That call's been playing in my head since I listened to it on Sunday. That's probably why Amanda's post spoke to me so strongly. I know my Father has some kind of guardian angel that keeps him alive but it won't be long before I am truly an orphan if he keeps going the way he is. And as much as I hate him, as much as he disappoints me time and time again, the thought of losing my Father too makes me very sad.

He turned 62 on the 8th of January and he still acts like he's 15 years old. Now that I'm an adult and I look at his behavior I see he's always acted like he was 15 years old. He pretended to be an adult for awhile but it never stuck. He wanted somenone to do his laundry and cook his meals and take care of him the way his Mother did. My Mom did that. When she died, I wouldn't do that for him. I figured that a 53 year old man should be able to take care of his house and cooking his own meals and being responsible for his own child. I was so wrong. I was so SO wrong.

I'm very lucky that my husband and I could take in my sister Julia. She graduated from high school. Got a great scholarship for college. She found a job that she loves and even if she never graduates from college, that's fine. She's strong. She's had to be. Just like we all have.

I'm just feeling fragile and broken today and I want to sit at my desk and cry but I'm trying my hardest not to do that. I've got work to do and I really shouldn't be writing this, but I needed to. I needed to get this stuff off my chest. I'm usually pretty happy go lucky. I mean, look at my Facebook and it'll tell you.

Today is just not one of those days.

So, on Thursday the hubby and I took the afternoon off and after a quick nap I drove us to Athens to see Butch Walker and the Black Widows at the 40 Watt Club. This was... well, spur of the moment really. We decided to go and planned everything within a week which is not our usual deal. Most of the time we've got things planned way in advance. However, I received Butch's new album, The Spade, in the mail after winning it from a Tumblr contest (I had to enter a picture of someone in the 80s. Unfortunately all my pictures are in my sister's attic, so Adam obliged and gave me this one:

My hubby's the Ape. I love him so.)

ANYWAY. I've been following Butch for a long time. I started listening to his first band, Southgang, in the early 90s when their album Tainted Angel came out. I didn't even realize that Marvelous 3 was Butch and two other members of Southgang until much much later. I think it was when my best friend Wendi introduced me to their song, Vampires in Love. You might know Marvelous 3. They are kind of considered a one-hit wonder. Freak of the Week was their hit. It's a good song. Butch is a great songwriter. His songs have only gotten better and better. He's written songs (or produced albums) for Pink, P!ATD, Avril Lavigne, Katy Perry, Weezer and many others.

So, Athens. It was... mind-blowingly good. The show kicked so much ass. Butch owned that stage and the bar and... holy shit. It was just an all around fantastic show. Adam liked Butch ok, but I think after seeing him perform live that Adam is nearly as big a fan as I am. I made a MP3 cd for my car of all of Butch's albums and it's just been on rotate since Thursday. And now I'm going to link to some Youtube videos so you can see Butch's awesomeness for yourself. I'm seeing if I can swing another of his shows before he heads oversees but I don't think it's going to happen. Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando, and Raleigh are all long trips and I have very little vacation time. But it would be so worth it. Oh I know he'll be back. Atlanta's his hometown. I just want to see him again and meet him.

Oh and I've planned some tattoos based on Butch's music and Counting Crows music. Whether I'll actually be brave enough to get them, I have no idea. But ... I think I might.

Anyway!!!!!!! Youtube video awesomeness of Butch.

Pretty Melody - Butch performed this last Thursday and it was fantastic! This video is goofy and also features members of P!ATD as ninja warriors.

BEXXY! You are a P!ATD fan still, right? You'll get a kick out of this video if you haven't seen it already:

And if you want to know what Marvelous 3 was like:

And from his new album, The Spade:

And last but certainly not least:

Hi

Doctor Lightbulb
So, I totally know why I haven't posted in forever. It all started when I moved out of my Father's house. Once we moved out and Julia moved in with us, I really haven't been as depressed or angry as I was during the time I lived with my Father. I'm actually pretty happy. If I had more money I'd be much happier, but that's not going to happen so I'll get by!

Hi everybody!

I missed you!

Did you miss me?

Check yes [ ]
Check no [ ]

I'm going to try to be more regular. I can't guarantee anything. I say that all the time and then it takes me 8 months to post anything ever again.

So, I was looking over the news the other day and was reading about someone that ... I don't even know. He did something to break the law and so was arrested. I think it had something to do with drugs. ANYWAY.

His name? Harry Bunn, Jr.

It made me giggle.

There's a Harry Bunn, Sr. walking around out there. ;D

I don't have much to say, as you can see. Summer went well. It was busy and I barely had time to think. We have the month of August "off" from storytime and programming and it's been lovely.

Starting Monday I really need to buckle down and figure out what I'm doing programming wise for the next few months but that'll be Monday.

I've been reading a lot. Did I tell you I got a Nook for Christmas? I can't remember and I can't be arsed to look back through my entries right now. Anyway, got a Nook for Christmas. I love it. It is the best thing ever. Well, books are still better, but I love my Nookie Nook. His name is The Doctor. :D So I've been reading books. Finished The Warlock by Michael Scott on Tuesday and started Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs on Wednesday.

The Warlock is excellent. It's book five in the Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel series. If you haven't read these books, WHY NOT?!?!? They are so good. The fourth book is a little slow, but The Warlock is back to form. SO SO GOOD. Start with The Alchemyst.

Miss Peregrine is good so far. It's been a fast read. I'm loving the photographs that illustrate the book. Fun.

OH! And I got an advanced copy of Erin Morgenstern's The Night Circus - OMG. It is SO SO SO GOOD. You HAVE to read it when it comes out in September. It's about magic, romance, and a circus that you have to read to believe. I loved it so very much.

Can't wait til August 27th and the new episode of Doctor Who. I was so worried about Matt Smith and now I love him just as much as I loved Eccleston and a littttttttle tiny bit less than I loved Tennant. Yes, I'm still crazy about David Tennant. :P And I LOVE Rory Williams. Yes I do. :P

So anybahoodle.

Julia starts college next week. I've gotten her through her teenage years and into college. She is looking for an apartment/house to share with her boyfriend. She's all growed up, ya'll! (Sorry, Paula Deen moment there for a second.) She's still not sure what she wants to do, but you know, that happens. She's starting off with Psychology. Good place to start.

Devin heads back to school next week too. Hard to believe he's 15. He'll be driving before long and then we probably won't see him much.

What's that you say? That means more alone time for you and your husband?

HOLY CRAP.

I don't know what we'll do with it. Probably spend a lot of time on Netflix and reading. :P

Anyway, just wanted to update you on what was going on with me!

I hope you're all doing well. *MASSIVE MASSIVE MONSTER HUGS*

Absolutely my mother's death. August 14th, 2005. I'll never get the date out of my head. I'll never forget the way it felt when they told us that the blood in her brain would not subside. That there was no hope. I'll never forget hearing my father make the decision to turn off the life support. The minute the machines went off and Momma left us.

August 17th, 2005. The funeral. Touching her cold hand knowing that I'd never feel the brush against my forehead again. I'd never hear her laugh. I'd never watch her fix that long beautiful hair again. I'd never hug her.

So many things good happened after that day. So many things bad happened after that day. I hate that I didn't call Adam sooner so that he could have met her at least one day before she died. So that she would know that I found the perfect person. The one I had been looking for so long. I hate that my Father couldn't step up and be the man he could have been. Instead he collapsed into the man I always knew he was. My Mother raised us. My MOMMA did everything. She clothed us and listened to us and fed us and knew every little thing about us. He knew nothing and wanted to know nothing. The only thing WE, his children, were and always have been to him is a status symbol. He only ever cared what we did when we did something good because it made HIM look good.

Being able to leave my relationship with my Father behind was sad. But in the long run it has been so freeing.

I am an orphan now. But it's ok. I have my husband. I have my sisters. I have my stepson. I have my wonderful in-laws who love me. I have so much.

I just wish I still had my Momma to share it with.

If you look at my collection of icons as a whole...

You might think I was a little teeny-tiny bit obsessed with David Tennant.

*cough* Yeah...

If you are a fan of Robert Pattinson do not read this. I am not a fan. I also talk about Water for ElephantsCollapse )

I apologize if I offended any of you with my non-Robert Pattinson liking.

Sooo... what else can I talk about today? Can you believe Lost is almost over? I kind of fell out of watching it for awhile last season but now I'm hooked again. There are still characters I wholeheartedly dislike, but I'm eager to see how everything is going to turn out.

Chuck is still fantastic and STILL my favorite show on TV right now. Followed in a very strong second position by Castle. I am so happy that chances are good for a renewal of Chuck. I will be heartbroken if they cancel it. Adam and Zac and Yvonne and even Josh brighten my week when there's a new episode of Chuck. I love that show. LOVE IT. I'm so happy that my coworker is back next week so I won't be missing the show live! I don't mind watching OnDemand but I spend the next day avoiding Twitter and FB in an effort to not spoil myself!

Another thing I'm excited about: Crash Test Dummies have a new album out today and they're touring in support! No dates near me yet, but Brad did mention on the blog that they were looking at possibly coming to Atlanta. AWESOMESAUCE. Oh. Didn't I mention? I love the Crash Test Dummies. It's an unnaturally sized love. I want to scoop Brad Roberts up and cover his head with furry purry kisses. (OK, seriously. What have I been smoking the past two days? Oh, yeah, I know - INSOMNIA.) Honestly though, they are awesome. Their songs are fun and sometimes deliciously dirty (Look up the lyrics to a later CTD song I Don't Care If You Don't Mind). Another of my faves that I've never seen live. Can't wait!

My new dishwasher is marvelous. It's an ivory goddess lording over my kitchen. I was so happy to come home last night knowing that I wouldn't have to be scrubbing dishes all night long. It was wonderful. Julia was a little dubious when I told her it was all I could talk about yesterday but Adam confirmed it. I am a sad, dishwasher having lady.

IT's coming up on that time again. Yes. You guessed it. Summer Reading is just around the corner. Days filled with screaming children and puppet shows. Magicians and snot. Wild animals and the scent of poo.

I Did mention that, right? About two months ago a kid pooped on the floor, in the library, RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY DESK. Yes. It was disgusting. I just ... had to shake my head. His grandmother had just stuck him in the children's area while she went off to get on the computer. She came over to get him, saw the pile of poop, and just left with him in tow. Now, I didn't realize what was going on because my desk is rather high and I sit pretty low. I didn't realize until the smell hit me and someone came around the corner and commented on the poopy floor. I had just thought the kid had a dirty diaper. AND HOW.

UGH.

People are disgusting.

Anyway...

I've been having dreams about Top Gear. Probably haven't mentioned that I really like that show, have I? I haven't mentioned much of anything lately. I have no idea WHY I like that show, but I do. IT makes me giggle. I had a dream the other night that the hosts were all vampires. Richard Hammond and James May wanted to eat and kill me. Jeremy Clarkson thought I would make an excellent vampire and was trying to rescue me from being killed. Go figure. I've also been having loads of dreams about zombies. Two nights ago I was on a plane/boat/train that was full of zombies I was trying to escape from. No, really. It was a plane/boat/train. It had wings, it was on a track and in the water. Weirdness. It's no wonder I can now not sleep.

Two days and counting! WooHOOOOO! I'm hoping I'll get some sleep tonight but if it looks like I won't, I have some Tylenol PM to help.

I wonder if it's a day out of school or something. The library is suddenly teeming with kids and school hasn't been let out yet!

Well, I keep getting busier and busier and this entry has taken forever to write so I should probably go. Two days in a row though, WOOT! *hugs all around*

Have a great day!

Do you give your vehicles names? If so, what are they?

First question listed was submitted by femsc. (Follow-up questions, if any, may have been added by LiveJournal.)

View 1851 Answers

Yes. I have always given my current vehicle a name. My first car, a blue Oldsmobile 88 was Piece of Crap aka Ben. My second car, a rust-colored Lincoln Continental, was Ol' Bertha. My third car, a blue Cavalier, had a name when I received it: Ol' Blue. My current car, and love of my driving life, is a red Ford Fusion named Squishy. As in "I shall call him Squishy and he shall be mine and he shall be my Squishy." (Finding Nemo) and is mostly called Squishy because the dashboard is kinda springy and cushiony and ... SQUISHY.

HIYA PEEPS! Long time no see.

I did just call you peeps. I know. I have no shame. But it's ok! Peeps are cool! They're my favorite Easter candy! They're all marshmallowy and sugary goodness and I luffs them, just like I luffs you! *MASSIVE HUGS*

*cough*

Um.

Ok.

I am entirely too happy today. Especially on a day when I've had to cover two people who are out and am working my third week on two nights a week which SUCKS A MIGHTY SUCKING THING. But... BUT BUT BUT! Here's what is making my day:

I. Have. A NEW. DISHWASHER! *does the dance of joy* COME COOSIN LARRY! Now we are so happy we do the Dance of JOY!!

Oh yesh. That is from Perfect Strangers. It brings back so many happy memories.

So yeah. We have had a magnificently spectacularly CRAPTACULAR dishwasher for awhile now. I found that if I bought the Electrasol tabs with the little red ball in them that it would get the dishes mostly clean. Well, even that stopped working. So I let the apartment complex know. And they came and cleaned the filter and basin cos most of the time that's all the problem is...

But no. That made it worse. So, two weeks ago I got a note that we were getting a new dishwasher. And so I've been washing dishes by hand which sucks a mighty suck. Especially since our kitchen is so bloody tiny that only one and a half people can fit in at a time. Really! I checked! So that means that all the dishes were being done by one person.

Guess who?

No really. I'll give you three!

Um, nope. Not the Pope.

And not Jennifer Lopez either.

Nope, you guessed it. They were being done by me.

And it's not that I mind really but ...

Sometimes I do.

Especially when I cooked the dinner too.

It just... aggravates me a tiny wee little bit of a bit.

But no more! Now I can fill the dishywasher up and let it run and voila! Clean dishes without the dishpan hands!

YAY!!!!!!!

So yeah...

It's really truly made my day. I had a dream last night about the dishwasher and them coming to install a new one.

Hooray!

Ok. Seriously need to stop talking about the dishwasher now.

I have something else to be really super-excited about! I don't know if I've mentioned it, but I love Kim Harrison. My love for her books is akin to how I used to feel about Anne Rice. I love her world. I love the characters. My heart is going to break if she ever kills off my favorite character (and I know it's going to happen I just don't want it to!). ANYWAY...

On Friday I was reading her newest book Black Magic Sanction and I was taken by the following sentence: "That's so sweet, I think I'm gonna barf fairy farts." It made me laugh so hard that I had to thank her for it. On Facebook. So today?

She responded and said how happy she was that I was enjoying the book. That? IS AWESOME. *loves Kim Harrison*

She doesn't live that far away from me, but it seems like every time she's doing a local signing I have to work or ... something is coming up. I think she did a local signing back during the wedding and then in the past few months her signing was on a Thursday - a night when I have to work late and very rarely can get people to switch with me so...

I'm hoping she'll do a signing in Sept/Oct time and I can kill two birds with one stone and do the RenFest in Charlotte AND swing by to meet Kim and get an autograph! :)

So yeah.

Life is good.

*hugs*

I miss you guys. I'm totally going to start writing more often.

(She says and hopes she means it!)

*more hugs*

*snogs*

*inappropriate groping*

HAHAHAHAHAHA! I'm almost giddy today.

I'm going to go now. I really don't have much else to say!

Arrivederci!

I suck. 30 Days catch up.

Tardis in a field
I really do. I suck. I can't even keep up with this blog for 30 days. Blah. Well, I will say, it's made me post more often than I have in the past year!! So, yay for 30 days meme thingys.

I do have to admit the past week and a half or so has been CARAZY with the people being out and all. And I have a program coming up on Monday that I'm not even slightly ready for. SO... yeah. I'm procrastinating the planning on that to post here where I've been procrastinating posting because of work. :P It's a big circle.

So, I'll put it behind a cut so I don't clutter your Fpage.

30 Days Catch Up - Days 13 - 22. I KNOW, OK!Collapse )

Soooooo that was day 13 - day 22.

Sorry to have to catch up like that! :) Thanks for reading, if you read it! I hope you like the soup if you try it!! :) It's going to SNOW TODAY! I'm so excited you have no idea. I haven't seen snow in ages. I know some of you are sick and tired of snow and I don't blame you but we hardly ever get snow here. I just want to see a few flakes. :)

Anyway, hope you all have a fantabulous weekend! *hugs all around*

HELL

People are Idiots and I hate them.
This has been a horrible day. I don't want to talk about it. I'm overemphasizing because I'm just in a really weird/overreacting/I hate the world type of mood today.

So.

To make this quick:

Day 05 → Your favorite quote:

"True love is like ghosts, which everybody talks about and few have seen."
-Francois De La Rochefoucauld

I came across that quote in Bartlett's Familiar Quotations when I was in College and just fell in love with it. I could just see everyone's True Loves dancing around them just out of sight. Everyone always seems to be searching for that One True Love. I'm so glad I found mine. My hope is that, if you haven't yet, you will all find your own True Loves.

Much loffs to you all.

Hi Guys!

Boy, it's been a long time! Last time I posted I had just gotten married. :) Things are still going very well, but I knew they would. We had been living together for nearly two years! Getting married just made things official. I mean, it was amazing! I'm so glad we did get married. But has it changed our relationship? No. Not really. Everyone keeps asking and seems surprised when we answer no.

I've been paying monthly for this journal and realize I really need to start writing in it. There's no reason to fork out money every month if I'm not. So. My New Years Resolution is for this year, to write more often. It's been my New Years Resolution for a couple of years but I think I can finally keep it now! I've been itching to write and so I will!

So! An update on lifey type things first. I'm married. Yay! But you knew that already. We are doing good. Right now the entire fam is suffering from some sort of sinus bug and that sucks but it's nothing bad! Adam went to the Doctor on Thursday who told him to keep taking the sinus meds he's been taking and he's finally getting over it. I started feeling bad Saturday night and so did Julia. I took today off and hopefully will be well enough to be back at work tomorrow.

Christmas was good. I still haven't received my Christmas present from Ad. He waited a bit too long and apparently it is supposed to be here today. So, if it's something awesome I'll probably be back here tomorrow to post about it and squee. :) EDITED: I wrote this last night but got to feeling bad and couldn't finish. So I now HAVE my Christmas present! It was a scent locket from BPAL Well, really, the Black Phoenix Trading Post. Which one, you might ask? The Forbidden Brides of the Faceless Slaves in the Secret House of the Night of Dread Desire! It is AWESOME. And BPAL is awesome too because I got FIVE Imps. The Ghost is glorious. I quite like Knave of Hearts as well. Highwayman and Night-Gaunt were not for me and the jury is still out on the last, Verdandi. But fun!!!

Speaking of Neil and squeeing -

Photobucket

I met Neil Gaiman again on December 14th. Unfortunately the girl who was sticking Post-Its on the books with our names misspelled Renee. So I became Ronee in both The Graveyard Book and Odd and the Frost Giants. That. Stinks. But really? It's ok. I got to say hello and Thank him again and it was lovely. I also met up with a really nice local girl who sat with me and we talked Neil while we were waiting. It was nice not to just sit there like a lump while waiting to get in line. :)

AND NOW - I get to talk about things that my family is just tired of hearing me talk about!

I finally saw Star Trek and it. Was. AWESOME. Holy crap. I so wish that I had been able to see it on the big screen. Love love love it.

Also, I am in love with Up. Ellie and Carl's story just... well it just about broke my heart. I watched it three times in one day (I showed it twice at the library and then made Adam watch it when I got home!) and cried every single time at a certain point in the film. It is beautiful. I have it on Blu-Ray now (cos we bought a Blu-Ray player during Black Friday! Woot!)

TV shmeevee. I'm still watching Heroes. Yes, I know. I know I'll be disppointed in how the show will turn out but I just can't give up Zachary Quinto every week. I really don't have much to comment on it except: I'll be overjoyed if they never bring Matt Parkman back. I love Greg Grunberg but I'm so sick of his character on that show. Of course, I felt the same about Mohinder last season.

Chuck is back next week and I. Can't. WAITTTTTTT!!! I love that show so very much. Also very excited about Lost's impending return!

Of course there's also Doctor Who Spoilers, probably, aheadCollapse )

Enough talk about Doctor Who! :)

Two people are out at work today and so I'm spending a buttload of time on desk so you may hear more from me today or this could be it. I hope you all had a great Christmas and a very Happy New Year. You'll be hearing more from me! Soon you'll be sick of me. :P

Hope you're all doing well! Much love! *hugs*

Married woman

Dread Pirate Roberts and Princess Butter
I'm married.

It's very weird to say that. I'm married. I'm now Mrs. Burton. It's very strange. I still write Reel on everything.

The wedding was amazing though much of it was a blur. I was fine until 5 seconds before we walked down the aisle and then I got SUPER NERVOUS. Ad's friend Cliff sang Our Song - "Tomorrow in Her Eyes" by Ron Sexsmith for us. Cliff has a fantastic voice. He did a beautiful job singing for us. My in-laws were amazing. They did so much to make our day special. We had a lot of people come in costume too. Julia's boyfriend Keifer came as the Burger King but thankfully did NOT wear the mask. He just wore a crown and scepter. This is a good thing as the Burger King totally freaks me out. I have no idea why he just does.

I have pictures but they are on a DVD-R and our computers at work do not have DVD drives so... I have to upload them at home. There are a few pictures on Facebook that my Aunt and sister took.

We took last week off and went down to Seabrooke Island which is about 45 minutes outside of Charleston, SC. It was lovely. Adam's brother has a condo down there and they let us borrow it for the week. We only stayed until Thursday but it was nice. We went into Charleston twice and walked around the Market and the other little shops. We didn't have to feel bad about what we ate because we walked it all off!! It was a great week though. Nice and quiet. Exactly what we needed.

Just checked Facebook and realized I've been invited to a Little Black Dress party by the local radio station. Performers? Push Play (I don't care about them) and JASON CASTRO! The American Idol contestant I adored! I heard his new song and liked it a lot. I'd love to see him in concert. Of course, it's on a Thursday. I work til 9 on Thursdays. Maybe I can get someone to switch with me. I hope so. I'd really like to go.

The apartment complex where we live is raising our rent again so we've decided we're going to start looking for a house... SOON. I've been wanting to get out of that place for awhile. There's a 4 bedroom that's not too expensive in a decent neighborhood. We really need to go look at it. And there's another really pretty one but I don't think Adam likes it very much but I love it. We really really need to go look at that one so he can fall in love with it too.

I am starving. It needs to be lunchtime now.

Well, I should probably be off now. I need to get a few things done before I leave the front desk. I hope you are all doing fantastic! *hugs all around* *loves*

Now, where did I put that School Library Journal?

Two WEEKS?

David Tennant/Casanova/Corbeau c'mere...
Hiya! I just purchased a paid account. You know what that means? You guys are going to start seeing a lot more of me. Why? Cos I'm not wasting that money! I'm going to start posting regularly again! Yahoo!!

Can you believe it's Two Weeks until the wedding? I CAN'T! I'm not freaking out though. Not really. I mean, I'm nervous. But it's ok. Everything is done except for ... well, Adam's tux isn't here. It's on its way though. Um, not sure about his vest. We were going to take pictures on the 24th at the local gardens (Hopeland Gardens - it's soooo pretty there. Not that it's not pretty where we're getting married. But Hopelands has some great locations for picture taking.) but that's not looking likely as, even if his tux arrives next week, there's no way it will be altered in time for pictures on the 24th. *grumblebuns*

My dress is here. It is absolutely beautiful and gorgeous and everything I'd hoped it would be. My shoes arrived on Tuesday and I LOVE THEM SO MUCH. I can't wait to wear them. I'd wear them before the big day but I don't want to jinx anything and... you know... spill something on them. As I know I would. Because that's just the way my life works. When I bought my car, Squishy, brand new - next day someone dinged it with their stupid car door. Bought a new t-shirt - spilled something on it. You know. BAD LUCK. So right now my shoes are in their box in the closet. I have a FANTASTICAL necklace that bluejbird made for me! It's SO PRETTY. OMG. I love it. Caterer is hired. Cake is being made. Everything will be faboo. I'm sure.

I just worry. :P

It's what I do.

I am SO ready for dinner. Ugh. That corndog I had for lunch did NOT last long at all.

SOOOOOOO, Fall TV is here. What am I watching? Honestly? Not much. Mondays I watch HIMYM and TIVO Heroes. I know, I know. I can't help it. I watch for HRG and Sylar. Well, and now I watch for Robert Knepper too. It's funny watching Heroes, and I talked about this with Ad the other day, because it's so UNEVEN. Jack Coleman, Zachary Quinto, and Robert Knepper can act circles around most of the other cast. There's this big rumour going around that the show is going to lose a HUGE CAST MEMBER on Monday's episode and watching the previews I think I know who it is and couldn't possibly care less. I won't miss his side talking at all. If it is who they make it out to be in the previews. If it's the other character - I will no longer watch this show.

HIMYM has been great. LOVED the Marshall/Nuno Bettancourt duet on Monday's episode. TOO FUNNY. And I love love love love LOVE CASTLE! If you are not watching this show, WHY NOT? Fillion is at his snarky and lovable best. AND rumour has it that Cap'n Tightpants will be dressing up as Cap'n Tightpants in the Halloween episode. Wouldn't that be fabulous?!?!? It is soothing the hole in my heart that longs for Chuck. Good news though - NBC is considering moving the Chuck premiere up! I hope they do! I need some Buy More in my life!

The rest of the week is rather dull. Tuesdays are usually reserved for catching up with Heroes. Wednesday is Top Chef. Thursdays... well Thursdays is Vampire Diaries and I know I know. It's goofy. And cliched. And you have no idea how much I kick myself that I get so excited about watching my TIVO'd episode when I get home on Thursday evenings. I read those books a frillion times when I was in High School. Ian Somerhalder has Damon DOWN. He's great. And I hated him on LOST. So that's saying something.

Ok. Sooooooo... I should go now.

:)

I shall leave you with David Tennant. Because I CAN! :) Muhahahahaha!!

I know. I'm obsessed. Don't judge me. David Tennant <3Collapse )

Wedding Shtuffs

DW The Doctor Likes It
Because I have to get this down somewhere.

I wanted a super super small wedding with just... immediate family. My sisters and their significant others. Adam's brother and his family. Ad's parents. My aunts and Granny. Ad's best friend and my best friend.

It would have been about 20 people and that would have been that.

Now it's approaching 65 people and it's ... just stressing me a little. I know, I know. It's a good thing. It's a wedding. It will be great and something I will remember forever. But it still would have been great and something I would remember forever if it had only been immediate family.

My dress has been ordered. It's not here yet. It's coming from the U.K. and I'm panicked that it won't get here in time. She apparently mailed it on the 7th but she was supposed to send me confirmation and never did. I emailed her last week to make sure and she still hasn't emailed me back so ... I sent another email today. I don't want to be a bother but this is a big deal. I do NOT have a back-up dress. If I don't get this dress I guess I will have to wear my costume from last year and I don't want that as my wedding dress.

bluejbird is making me a necklace to wear with my dress. I am so happy that she's doing it. Her jewelry is so lovely!

I ordered the cake topper on Friday and then got notification on Sunday that it wouldn't be in stock until after Halloween so had to order a different one for a replacement. It's not the one I want but what can you do? They're the only company that sells the dancing skeleton couple that I can find. But it's ok. The one I got to replace is pretty too, it's just not the one I wanted.

Catering has been locked in. There will be a lot of food.

Cake has been decided on. My friend Jodie is making it. It will be a topsy-turvy chocolate cake with dark purple icing, black gum paste roses and spiders. I can't wait to see what it looks like.

I finally got my engagement ring. It's gorgeous. Seriously. I keep staring at my hand. SO PRETTY. I tried to take pictures but my ring is so awesomely sparkly that they're all blurry. Either that or I can't hold my hand still enough to take the picture. I'll try to get one sometime this week and post it here.

I'M SO NERVOUS YOU HAVE NO IDEA.

I'm not nervous about marrying Ad. I have no qualms. He's it. He's the one. I can't stand being away from him. Everyone asks how we can work together and then go home to each other every night. We just do it. I'm sure he gets aggravated with me and vice versa but we've never gone to sleep angry with one another. It'll be four years we've been together in November. I'm so lucky.

I'm nervous about the crowd of people. Of trying to introduce all these people that have never met. Of making sure that everyone is having a good time. Of... everything. I really do wish we had just eloped. I know I always said I wanted a Halloween wedding and I know it will end up being fun, but right now I'm just... so very nervous.

Welllllllll... I should go now. There's not much else to talk about.

I leave you with David Tennant. Because I CAN!I think I have an unhealthy obsession with this man.Collapse )

Annnnnd I'm gone now!

Like a big old Pig Hug

Pig and Guard Duck
So, I'm sitting here listening to a little big of Jason Mraz on my ITunes because I'm not feeling very happy and Jason tends to stop that. Jason tends to take my frown and turn it upside down as cliched as that it, it's true. So I thought - "You know Renee, it's been forever since you've shared any music on your LJ." Of course, it's been forever since I've posted anything of substance on my LJ and so I thought, now's the perfect time. Adam's at the hospital with his father (his father has Pancreatitis and has been in the hospital since Tuesday but is doing much better today.) and Julia is at Target with Keifer, so I'm all by myself. And Jason still hasn't lifted that sadness/unhappy feeling that I have so I'm going to censor myself right now and just get on with the music.

So, I've had these songs stuck in my head for a while. I'm not really as in love with Jason's most recent album as I am with Waiting for My Rocket to Come or Mr. A-Z, but it's growing on me. Three songs from We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things

Make it Mine
Lucky feat/ Colbie Callait
The Dynamo of Volition

And my favorites from his first album, Waiting for My Rocket To Come

Sleep All Day
Too Much Food
Too Much Shelter

And three more from Mr. A-Z

Did you Get My Message which I believe features Rachel Yamagata sharing vocal duty.
Plane
The Forecast

And last but not least, one from his live album Tonight, Not Again

The title song!

So, I hope if you haven't ever really heard any of Mr. A-Z's music you might download some of this and try it out.

Hope you're all having a great weekend!

Wow.

Dread Pirate Roberts and Princess Butter
Is it June already? How is this possible?!?!

Yesterday was my birthday. For my birthday, I dyed my hair blonde. Celebrated on Saturday evening with a visit to Travinia's, a new Italian joint, avec the future in-laws. Both were very kind about my new look. I'm still... unsure. I'll post a pic HereCollapse ) but I'll cut it so you can decide whether you want to see it or not.

So, my BIG BIG BIG birthday present - Adam bought me tickets to see Counting Crows in August when they are going to be at the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach. Now, see the big deal about this is the Crash the Barricade thing that HOB does - they allow you to come in early, give you food, then you get first pick of seats. Because of that, last time Live came to HOB I was second row. Oh. My. God. Seriously?!?! I might be that close to Adam Duritz? The man I worshipped since 1994?!?!? I might die. No really. I was pretty far from the stage in Charlotte last summer and I still amost had a conniption fit. I can't imagine being that close. I just hope that Teresa has her baby before that day! She's due on August 18th and the concert is on August 20th! C'mon baby Ethan! You have to get here when you're due!! Not just for Mama's sake, but for Auntie Nay-Nay's sake too!

Yesterday I spent most of the morning vegetating, watching Devin play The Force Unleashed on the PS2 and helping him find crystals for his lightsabers. I got on a kick to go to the mall and look at the Play N Trade for Nintendo games as I've been searching for Super Mario Bros. 2 for a long time. (Anybody got a copy they don't want anymore? I'll pay for shipping!!) I did NOT find SMB2 but I did find a copy of the Original SMB with Duck Hunt AND I found a Zapper for Duck Hunt as well. Boy, does THAT bring back memories. Anyway, Ad's parents gave me $30 for my birthday and I had to blow that as well and I bought a copy of Rock Band 2. Played it a little yesterday, but on Guitar and I really only have fun playing that when I'm playing the drums. I just didn't feel like dragging them out yesterday. I might do it tonight. :)

We went to Ferrando's Pizzeria for dinner and it was awesome and then we went back to my sister Teresa's for cake which was AMAZINGLY YUMMY even though I thought I was going to die from the amount of cheese I ate at Ferrando's.

Today it's back to work. Summer Reading starts in just a week. It's hard to believe. It should be a fun summer though as I'm trying to motivate the teens by letting them dye my hair one of three funky colors (Manic Panic's Shocking Blue, Hot Hot Pink, or Purple Haze). So I'll have two very different hair colors this summer! Well, maybe. If the teens read over 100,000 pages. Should be fairly easy though. A LOT of them will be reading Twilight.

My toes hurt.

*sigh*

Is it 6 p.m. yet?

So, how awesome does the Harry Potter trailer look?!?! I can't WAIT! I've been trying to convince Ad to take me to see Star Trek but he really doesn't like Zachary Quinto as Spock at all. Poor Ad. It's cos I make him watch Heroes. Now all he can see is Sylar.

Watched the first of the last three remaining episodes of Pushing Daisies on Saturday evening. *sniff* It's sad. I do hope they can wrap it up ok. I would hate for them to leave it at a Cliffhanger! I did like seeing David Arquette's Randy Mann again. He's so cute with Olive. I'd forgotten just how adorable Lee Pace is.

Man, now that all the good shows are off TV is an absolute wasteland! I can't wait for Top Chef Masters to start. Ooh and The ... Um... something or other... with James Purefoy in it. I <3 him. I hope the show's not a piece of crap. I'm thinking I might try The Listener as well, but I'm not sure. I might try the first episode and if I hate it, no harm done.

Ad put True Blood on his Netflix for me so we can try that. I did NOT like the books at all though, so I'm not sure whether I'll enjoy the TV series or not. I know that some of you are big fans but I just... could NOT get into them at all.

Sooooo, really.... is it 6 p.m. yet?

Another hour? Damn.

Well, I suppose I should get some work done. Or ... maybe I should read some of Moon Called by Patricia Briggs. Oh, who are we kidding. I'm on Ref Desk, covering for staff that's out. I'll probably read since there's not a big demand for anything other than phone calls today. *knock on wood*

Hope you're all doing well! *hugs all around*

I keep saying I'm going to be better about posting here and I'm really going to try.

Feeling Silly

I was working on what I'm doing this summer for our Teen craft days and I came across the site CubeeCraft. While perusing their Pop Culture papercraft stuffs I came across these. And I had to make them.

Please ignore the dust bunnies and loose staples in the background. My desk is dirty.

Just thought I'd share.

Hope everyone's doing well. *hugs all around*

Buffy Nostalgia

Corpse Bride
Stole this from outoftime

When you see this, post another Buffy quote in your LJ. Let's see how long this can go on.

WESLEY: Mr. Giles. I'd like your opinion. While the last thing I want to do is muddle bad behavior in front of impressionable youth, I wonder if asking Miss Chase to dance would...

GILES: For God's sake, man, she's eighteen. And you have the emotional maturity of a blueberry scone. Just have at it, would you, and stop fluttering about.

WESLEY: Right, then. Thanks for that.

And I couldn't stop there:

Spike: How long am I going to live once I tell you?

Giles: Look, look, Spike — we have no intention of killing a harmless.. uh, creature.. but we have to know what's been done to you. We can't let you go until we're sure that you're .. impotent —

Spike: Hey!

Giles: Sorry, poor choice of words. Until we're sure you're, you're..

Buffy: Flaccid?

Spike: You are one step away, missy.

Buffy: Giles, help! He's going to scold me.

Yeah.

Adam Duritz
So. I don't watch BSG. Never have. Probably never will unless by some chance I can convince Adam to watch it with me and he's steadfast in his shunning of that show. So, yeah. Sorry for now squeeing/commiserating with you.

Had a super bad dream last night and ended up writing a 4:30 a.m. entry here on LJ. Probably shouldn't have. But I did.

Slept very very little. I am so sleepy right now I can barely keep my head up.

Julia is in the room with her boyfriend and his puppy. Puppy has peed on my bed so I can't go to sleep until the sheets are dry. He also just peed under the futon. Am not happy.

I want something sweet but do not have anything.

Called my Grandfather I haven't spoken to since... god, who knows? Asked him if he could get me a copy of some old videotapes of my Mom and Teresa and I and Julia too (in the hospital room after she was born). He said he's going to try and get it to me this week on DVD. I hope he can. I need to hear my Mom's voice again.

God I'm just brokenhearted today. It's been a miserable day emotionally.

Watching Return of the Jedi. Should probably put something happy-go-lucky in but I'm not in the mood. I'm actually kind of in the mood for Gilmore Girls. I might hunt down my DVDs and watch a few episodes before sleep.

*hugs all around* Hope you're all doing well.

And another thing...

Dread Pirate Roberts and his successor
Why do I continue to watch American Idol? The addition of Kara Dioguardia was fun, at first. Then she got majorly annoying with her "We could make you into a package." FUCK Packages, Kara! We don't need another Kelly Clarkson all wrapped up in a tiny red bow. But, that's what they're looking for. Not me. And yet I still watch. Every show I cringe as the wannabes butcher song after song.

There must be something wrong with me that I like being tortured week after week.

Anyway...

Alexis Grace for the win!

Oh and...

If someone wants to come conk me over the head with something big and heavy so that I can sleep tonight, that would be fantastic! I promise I'll leave the door unlocked and I won't call the police when I wake up in the morning, even if my head feels like it's splitting open.

The Return of the Shaggables

Tardis in a field
Ok, see, I'm so bad that I haven't posted anything for Aaaaaages. So, what I think I'm going to do is to go to the old standby and see if that makes memore likely to post anything of substance.

Every day I will post a shaggable of the day (Shaggable: Def: 1. A person of such hotness they are shag-worthy. Ex: David Tennant is unbelievably shaggable.) It may be the same person over a week or it may change, as my lusting changes. These may be male or female, actors or musicians. It all depends. Some days it may be more than one. People who followed me over on OpenDiary when I was over there, may remember my Shaggables. I miss them. I am bringing them back with a vengeance.

To Save your Friends List, I will always post the daily Shaggable under a cut. I will tag the Daily Shaggable with the actor or musicians name.

And so, it begins.

Kick it off with a bang - 2 Shaggables, 2 BIG beautiful Photos each, One male and one female!Collapse )

Thank you for reading. Hopefully I'll have a nice long entry of substance later. *massive hugs* Hope everyone's doing all right!!

*Edit: Not sure why I made this Friends Only. I'm trying to do that as little as possible now. *waves at everyone*

High School Make Out Music

Adam Duritz
I thought this was fun so I thought I'd do it. I got it from stoney321

High School Make Out Music Mix Meme:

Rules:
1. Has to be songs that were available to listen to while you were in high school, or the summer after graduation. (essentially 9th - 12th grade)
2. Has to be songs that either you DID make out to, or you WISHED you did - songs you thought would seal the deal, so to speak. *G*
re-read #2: you DID or you WANTED to.
3. Regardless of the ridiculousness (was the theme song to Pee Wee's Big Adventure what got you going?) share the song - that's half the fun!
4. Zip up songs and/or share link (via box.net, mediafire, megaupload, sendspace, yousendit...) and list the songs in your comment/post.
The point is to share music
5. If you post this to your own journal and not in comments, put a link to your list in comments here
6. Spread the word! Come on and play!

Christmas Surveyery

Tardis in a field
Snorked from WilliamtheBloody over on OpenDiary

The Ultimate 25-Question Christmas Survey

What's your favorite....

1. Christmas song?

Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth - Bing Crosby and David Bowie

2. Christmas movie? Probably Elf. I get so stupidly excited whenever I talk about that movie... I also get stupidly excited when I see it coming on the television even though I own the DVD.

3. Christmas cartoon/TV special? A Charlie Brown Christmas

4. Christmas food? My grandmother's raspberry trifle!! They're coming to visit us this weekend and we are cooking but I really really really hope my Granny brings me a trifle!!

5. Christmas decoration? Kermit the Frog. I never imagined that Kermit would make a good Christmas decoration but he looks unbelievably cute about to jump out of my Christmas tree. I should take pictures and upload them so you can see him!

6. Family Christmas tradition? It used to be everyone getting together on Christmas morning to open presents but... that's really become something I dread since my Mom passed away. Just... being with my sisters on Christmas makes me happy.

7. Lights: prefer white or multi-colored? MULTI! And if they blink that's even fantabulouser! (It is SO a word!)

8. Wrapping: prefer wrapping paper or gift bags? I. LOVE. Love. lovE. to wrap presents!!

9. Tree: artificial or live? Oh, I love a real live Christmas tree, but I love my little itty bitty artificial tree too!

10. Dinner: turkey or ham? OH TURKEY! TURKEY TURKEY TURKEY!

11. Egg nog: delicious or disgusting? DISGUSTING!

12. Inflatable yard-size glowing snow globes: cute or tacky? Tacky unless they feature one of the Peanuts Gang.

13. What's the best Christmas present you ever received? Adam has a tendency to get me things autographed by Neil Gaiman. I love those SO MUCH it makes me a little lightheaded sometimes.

14. What's the worst Christmas present you ever received? My MOm... for some strange reason, bought me a pair of footie pajamas ages ago that were pink and had little sheep all over them with the words "Time for Sleep" written above them. They were HIDEOUS.

15. When did you learn "the truth about Santa?" I was probably eight or nine. Saw something I asked for up in my parent's closet.

16. Gift cards: Do you think they're tacky and impersonal, or a brilliant way to make sure someone gets what they really want? I like gift cards a lot. I have such a hard time figuring out what people want and I know I'm probably hard to buy for as well.

17. Have you ever returned a Christmas gift? A jacket that was too small and ugly as sin.

18. Have you ever re-gifted a Christmas gift? Not that I can recall.

19. Do you write a Christmas list, or do you prefer to be surprised? I haven't made out a Christmas list since... I can't remember when!

20. Who's your easiest person to shop for at Christmas? It used to be Julia. I think right now it has to be Devin.

21. Who's your most difficult person to shop for at Christmas? Julia has been so difficult this year.

22. What's the best thing about Christmas? Being with my sisters and Adam and Devin.

23. What's the worst thing about Christmas? Trying not to go broke.

24. List some more of your treasured traditions. Watching Rudolph and A Charlie Brown Christmas. Drinking hot cocoa while curled up on Christmas Eve waiting to go to bed.

25. On a scale of 1-10, rate your current "Christmas spirit" levels (where 10 is "Fa la la la la", 5 is "sorta Christmasy" and 1 is "Mr. Grinch")

Um. Maybe a 5?

Le Questionnaire Cinematique

Tardis in a field
Totally stolen from another Diary site.

The Movie Watcher Survey

1.) What was the first movie you saw in a theater and simply had to go back and watch again the next day? Return of the King is the only movie I can think that I ever went back the next day to see again.

2.) What movie do you know so well that you find yourself mouthing the dialogue silently along with the characters? The Pirate, Princess Bride, Clue, The Wizard of Oz, The Mummy (Brendan Fraser), Labyrinth, Gladiator

3.) What is the most unique movie-watching experience you've ever had? I can't really think of any unique movie-watching experiences. I did go to the drive-in theater quite frequently once upon a time, but it's been awhile and I don't find it that unique.

4.) In terms of laughter, tears, fear, or anger, what movie triggered the strongest emotional response in you? Oh gosh. Tears: The Perfect Storm. I have no idea why but I sobbed in the car on the way home. Fear: Probably The Blair Witch Project, and if you saw where I used to live you would understand why. Anger: I don't know. I can't really think of one that fits this. Laughter: Birdcage is the first that pops into my head. Of course, being in a theater full of people also bursting into fits of laughter helps.

5.) Have you ever enjoyed a film remake? If so, which one(s)? I really liked The Miracle on 54th Street remake with Richard Attenborough.

6.) Are there certain directors, writers, or actors you trust more than others to make a film worthwhile? If so, which one(s)? Guillermo Del Toro. I have yet to dislike a movie by him. I usually enjoy movies with Tom Hanks. Ooh, and Cate Blanchett.

7.) What movie has the finest first 15 minutes in cinema? Gosh. That's a difficult question. I think I'm going to say the first 15 minutes of the extended version of Fellowship of the Ring. And only because it's the first thing that popped into my head.

8.) What movie has the finest final 60 seconds in cinema? The Pirate. Gene Kelly and Judy Garland dressed as clowns singing "Be A Clown". I love it.

9.) What is your favorite dialogue exchange in movie history?
HELLO! MY NAME IS INIGO MONTOYA. YOU KILLED MY FATHER. PREPARE TO DIE.
Count Rugen: No
Inigo: Offer me money
Count Rugen: Yes
Inigo: Power too! Promise me that.
Count Rugen: All that I have and more please.
Inigo: Offer me everything I ask for!
Count Rugen: Anything you want!
Inigo: I WANT MY FATHER BACK, YOU SON-OF- A-BITCH!

10.) What movie has the cheesiest dialogue exchange in movie history?
PADME: Anakin, don't say things like that. You're important to the Republic ... to ending this war. I love you more than anything, but I won't let you give up your life as a Jedi for me . . .
ANAKIN: I've given my life to the Jedi order, but I'd only give up my life, for you.
PADME: I wouldn't like that. I wouldn't like that one bit. Patience, my handsome Jedi . . . Come to me later.

11.) Do you have a favorite season or time of year for movie watching in the theater? Not particularly.

12.) Are there any movies you can only watch at a certain time of year? If so, which one(s)?
I'm not big on watching Holiday movies outside of the holiday. Except for Nightmare Before Christmas because it is awesome.

13.) What is the first movie you saw in theaters which you remember clearly? The Fox and the Hound.

14.) Are there any movies you absolutely adored as a child that you can no longer stand as an adult? If so, which one(s)? SCADS. I don't really like Snow White now. And as much as I loved Return to Oz when I was a little kid (and I mean LOVED) I haven't been able to make it through the movie as an adult.

15.) Have you ever had a movie you thoroughly enjoyed that was ruined for you by becoming associated with someone? If so, which one(s)? Not really. I saw The Patriot with an ex and so that has become inextricably entwined with his memory but... since I didn't really like that movie it's no biggie.

16.) Is there a movie that you dislike entirely save for one redeeming or beloved scene? If so, which one(s)? I couldn't stand Spy Kids except when George Clooney was onscreen.

17.) Have you ever seen a movie that you were enjoying, only to have it utterly ruined for you in the last few minutes? If so, which one(s)? No Country For Old Men. Any movie which doesn't really have an ending pisses me off.

18.) What is the worst film you have ever watched? (In this instance, I'm not talking about a merely bad film, or an unenjoyable one. I'm talking about a film that made you question ever watching ANY film ever again.) Let me think on this and get back to you.

19.) Have you ever purchased a movie before actually having watched the film before? If so, which one(s)? Moulin Rouge, The Fall, Pan's Labyrinth and I loved them all.

20.) What movie could you watch every day for the rest of your life? Princess Bride. Without a doubt. I never get tired of that movie.

1. Stop talking about politics for a moment or two. (I haven't been talking about politics... or much of anything actually. But I'm having a crappity day [see icon] and this gave me an excuse to look up cute things.)

2. Post a reasonably-sized picture in your LJ, NOT under a cut tag, of something pleasant, such as an adorable kitten, or a fluffy white cloud, or a bottle of booze. Something that has NOTHING TO DO WITH POLITICS.

3. Include these instructions, and share the love.

Well, after much much much debate I couldn't decide which one I wanted to post more... so I'm posting them both.

I don't know how many people are from the U.S. on my friends list but ... is anyone else having a problem with finding gas for your cars? Nearly every single gas station in my area is out of gas and those that AREN'T out are cutting pumps off at 2 p.m. today and not opening again until tomorrow. I almost didn't get home last night because there was no place to get gas. I had just BARELY enough to coast home but there's no way I'm going to be able to go out again. I'm sure that just cranking the car up will use up the rest of the gas in the tank.

I was so excited last Monday for the Heroes premiere. I still love that show. It's good to see that some things never change. Like ranty mcrantersonsCollapse )

MAN! You would not BELIEVE the traffic we have at the library now. I saw an item on Good Morning America about how people are starting to use the library more because a> it's free and b> it's free! It's fantastic. I love my library. Unfortunately I do not love the new breed of patron we've been getting who want to demand, demand, demand and then not bring the items back. *THWACK* Also, who steals from the library? Honestly? It's FREE! All you have to do is check it out and you can watch the DVD as many times as you want or read the book as many times as you want. You can even bring it back and CHECK IT OUT AGAIN! You would not Believe how many DVDs we have lost. It's insane. My co-worker purchases the DVDs for our library and she bought the Christy complete series TV show DVD, you know? Someone took the whole set and put them in their backpack or something and walked out with them. Ridiculous!

I am so excited! I have The Fall on DVD! I get to watch it tomorrow! I can't wait! I hope it's as good as my brain keeps telling me it will be. The reviews were horrible. Well... doesn't really matter. At least there's Lee Pace to watch. He's fantastic. I watched Miss Pettigrew Lives for the Day and he was great in that. Well, I can't single him out. The entire cast was FANTASTIC. I need to own that movie.

Well, I think I've babbled on about absolutely nothing long enough. I've got two storytimes next week that I need to prepare for. I hope you are all doing well! *hugs* *massive hugs*

Much love to everyone!!

You better shake your... HONEYBUNS!

* I saw the image in my icon on CuteOverload when I logged into LJ this morning. I had to make it into an icon. He's just TOO cute.

* My hip hurts like you would NOT believe. I have no idea why. I thought it might be the way I was sitting at my desk but as I changed my position and it is still killing me, especially when I get up and walk around, methinks it might not be that.

* I have had Cosmic Thing by the B-52s stuck in my head all day. Someone help me.

* An addition to the above bullet: Shake it till the butter melts. Shake it til the butter melts. Shake that Cosmic Thing. Shake it. Shake it. Shake it. OH YEAH.

* Maureen Johnson (http://maureenjohnson.blogspot.com/), author of Devilish and Suite Scarlett answered one of my random questions in her blog the other day. Am now famous! Plan on world tour soon.

* I cleaned my office today. It is still, somehow, a wreck. But it's a less dusty wreck. Yay!

* Sometimes, I like to think I'm funny and that I will eventually start writing blogs that people actually want to read.

* I had the BEST sub at Firehouse Subs today. Mmmmm. Yummy Italian. I'm a sucker for those things. And pickles. I only wish they actually put the pickles ON the sub instead of beside it.

* I am currently reading Watchmen. Adam keeps telling me it gets better. I hope so. I'm not really liking it so far.

* I bought Julia tickets to see Jason Mraz for her birthday. I think I might be more excited to see him then she is. :( Her birthday's not til next Thursday but I think she's already figured it out.

* I really want my library to get some of these: http://www.bigcozybooks.com but I have a feeling we won't. They're adorable. That usually means my library won't go for them.

Well, I think I'm done bulleting. 30 minutes and I get to go home. Hurray!!!!!!

I hope you're all doing well! *hugs all around*

Much love to everyone!

Writer's Block: Choose a Power

If you could have the power to fly, be invisible, or teleport anywhere, which would you choose?

View 508 Answers

Ohhhhh, my very first thought was "INVISIBILITY"! But as I read the question and truly pondered I realized that wasn't the answer. I'd have the power to teleport anywhere. I watched the History Channel (or something like that) when they dissected Star Trek and the teleportation device and how it would never work and I was so disappointed. I'd really like to be able to just... I don't know. Step on a pad and ZOOM you're in New Zealand for a little jaunt. Step on this button and BAM you're in Paris or London or New York or HOME. Oh good heavens - HOME. If I could press a button here at work and suddenly I was in the cozy comfort of my apartment I would be SO happy. To be able to go home for lunch and relax. Enjoy a sandwich from the confines of my living room. *sigh* I'll keep dreaming. You never know. :)

Band Making 101

Tardis in a field
I'm bored. It's Monday. It must mean it's Meme time! Here's one stolen from eiluned:

Let's Make a Band:
1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first article title on the page is the name of your band.

2. http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four words of the very last quote is the title of your album.

3. http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days/
The third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

You then take the pic and add your band name and the album title to it, then post your pic.

The first I did:

Two more... because I'm really bored.Collapse )

They would be better if I'd had my Paint Shop but unfortunately I don't. So you get these lovely images put together by Picnik!

Without a doubt, it was this one:

helen3

It was taken in August 2006 during a trip to Helen, GA. My friends and I were trying to do a group trip with just the girls every year (we missed this year) and we decided on Helen because it was August and still very hot and we thought the mountains would be cooler. They were, but not by much. It rained a lot. I woke up one morning and looked out the windows of our cabin and there were these gigantic low clouds floating around the house outside around the mountains. I was just fascinated. They almost looked like cotton candy. It was almost as if you could reach out and take a handful. Just beautiful.

Blogging by Mail

Tardis in a field
Last month I participated, for the first time, in the Blogging by Mail activity over at Dispensing Happiness. I know they did one around Christmas last year and one of my friends over at Vox participated and it seemed like a lot of fun so I kept an eye out for the next round.

So, the theme for July and this round of Blogging by Mail was "My Favorite Things". I packed up a small box of my favorite things (mostly books, as I'm a book whore) and I was waiting for mine quite eagerly. I was out of town when the package arrived so I was doubly excited to come home to find this package! And when I opened it and read the letter only to find it was from the writer of the Dispensing Happiness blog herself. I wish I'd have had the forethought to take some pictures but unfortunately I did not, but I do feel like I should comment on the items because they were all so wonderful!

First, Stephanie included an issue of Vegetarian Times. Fantastic! My sister is 14 (15 next month) and she's been telling me for awhile now that she wanted to become a vegetarian. I love my veggies as well and this magazine gave me quite a few recipes to try! Thank you so much!

Barbara's Cheese Puffs - These things are heaven sent! They were the first item I popped open and started to munch on. DELICIOUS.

Almond Nut-Thins - These smelled divine and I couldn't wait to try them. Unfortunately they just weren't up my alley. My father paired them with summer sausage and ate the entire box. So, very good, just not to my taste. :D

The Annie's Barbecue sauce was FANTASTIC. We used it on chicken and I topped a meatloaf with it. Delish! I'm going to have to hunt this down or request it at my supermarket.

Speaking of Annie's, thank your son for me. The Annie's Mac & Cheese was great. I'm not much of a boxed pasta fan (I like making my mac and cheese from scratch) but man... this was really good. I served it with dinner one night and my family loved it! :)

I haven't used the Chipotles in Adobo yet, but that's because I'm saving it. I have a recipe for Taco Dip that could use a little spicing up. I think these are just the right thing to do that. :)

I absolutely loved the Irish Breakfast Tea. I have some loose tea but I very rarely have time to brew the loose leaves, but this gave me a chance of having some every morning for nearly a week. Thank you!! :D

I am such a chocoholic and what did you include? Four bars of the stuff. I nearly died over the Endangered Species bars. They had such cute wrappers and the chocolate inside was TO DIE FOR. YUM-MY. The Newman's Own bar was my sister's favorite. I got a tiny nibble but she ate the rest. The Dagoba bar was great too. Such a rich chocolate. Just delectable. I enjoyed all of them. I'm definitely going to look for some of the Endangered Species bars!

Another thing I'm a goof for? Gum. Glee Gum is great! Sometimes peppermint gums have a tendency to be too strong for me (I tend towards Spearmint) but this one was perfect. Not too strong and with a good flavor.

My sister and I were absolutely floored by the bag of chocolate chip cookies. The first thing was the sheer size of the cookies. Second, they were DELICIOUS. We wanted to eat the entire bag then and there! With a little willpower we managed to hide them away so we could enjoy them for the entire week. Seriously yummy. Thank you! I'm so glad you got to share some of your cooking with us!

The CD was a treat! I've been listening to it off and on since you sent it. I had heard of Bif Naked (I know her from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and I've enjoyed hearing more of her music. And The Clarks! I'd heard OF them but I'd never heard any of their music. I love it!

And of course, last but not least, the Burt's Bees. I do so love Burt and his many products. The chapstick was especially glorious as my sister started band and needed some help keeping her lips from burning and chapping in that hot sun. I have problems with dry hands, and feet, and the hand salve was fantastic at helping with that. :)

Thank you again for sharing your favorite things with me! I had a blast with this Blogging By Mail adventure and I can't wait to participate again! Thank you Stephanie!

My apologies that it took so long to get this up! :)
